Wesley Historic Commemorative 18th Century Service |
Historic St. Luke's Church commemorated an original Wesley Service. John Wesley founded the Methodist church in 1770. We replicated an 18th century service in period costume and text. Benn's United Methodist Church's minister Rev. Mark Burgess conducted the service. Benn's United Methodist Church is a daughter church of Historic St. Luke's Church, breaking off in the 1780's to form Benn's Methodist Episcopal Church. |

Historic Garden Week in Virginia |
The Isle of Wight Arts League is sponsoring this event where there will be artists on the grounds painting in the open air. We have propagated boxwoods from 200 year old cuttings. Historic St. Luke's offered these to the public for the first time ever. It was a grand success with a sell out of these first plants! St. Luke's boxwoods have been tenderly propagated by The English Connection nursery in Surry, Virginia. |

18th Century Family Day |
History came alive on the grounds of Historic St. Luke's Church. We celebrated our 18th-century heritage with a fun day of events for the family. Isle of Wight Militia encamped on the grounds and had children's "Musters and Drills". They demonstrated "Musket Drills and Firing", as well as interpreting the days leading up the Revolutionary War in Isle of Wight County. Tarleton's Dragoons Mounted Cavalry will marched their horses across the same grounds where"Bloody Tarleton" camped during the Revolutionary War. Renowned colonial historian and author, John T. Phillips II presented a short program on George Washington,"Dispelling Myths and Legends about George Washington." Nicki Sabino interpreted the formal dress of an 18th century woman, this award winning costume received first place in authenticity at the 1776 Yorktown Bicentennial. Isle of Wight's Militia did military demonstrations. The historical sketch "No Borrowed Glory" was presented. It is the story of Isle of Wight County's own Revolutionary hero Josiah Parker who served under George Washington. During this time the Vestry Books of the "Old Brick Church" were buried to keep them from the evil "Bloody Tarleton". Additionally there were two authors here to sign books: John T. Phillips II of George Washington's Rules of Civility and The Historian's Guide to Loudoun County, Virginia, Volume I: Colonial Laws of Virginia and County Court Orders 1757-1766 and Judy Bander of No Borrowed Glory. |

Historic St. Luke's Church, affectionately known as "the Old Brick", is the "Oldest surviving Church Of English Foundation in the United States" and the only original Gothic church in the USA. This Anglican Church was begun circa 1632. After the Revolutionary War, when the church was consecrated Episcopal, it was renamed St. Luke's. |

In past years community Thanksgiving services were held in the "Old Brick Church". Come see the windows dedicated to those famous people such as John Smith, Pocahontas, John Rolfe and Sir Walter Raleigh. Seating is limited. |
