World-Renowned Artist P. Buckley Moss
Creates a Painting of Historic St. Luke’s Church
World-renowned artist P. Buckley Moss, most noted for her unique Valley Style painting, created a stunning painting of Historic St. Luke’s. When Ms. Moss heard of Historic St. Luke’s 375 th Anniversary year and the anticipation of the next phase in historic preservation of the church, she graciously agreed to create a masterpiece of the “Old Brick” Church. “Old Brick” is the name given to this beloved structure by the early colonists and Virginians from 1632 to 1820, but it was decided to name the painting “Old St. Luke’s”, which is more recognizable to the people who cherish it today. Since Ms. Moss agreed to paint the church, Historic St. Luke’s Restoration, Inc., has been awarded a $250,000.00 Save America’s Treasures (www.saveamericastreasures.org) matching grant from the National Park Service. Save America’s Treasures competitive awards preserve the nation’s most significant, endangered intellectual and cultural artifacts, historic structures, and historic sites. The repair project on Historic St. Luke’s was one of only 42 out of 327 applications selected to receive funding through the very competitive grant program. The original painting debuts May 19-20, 2007, at Historic St. Luke’s 50 th Annual Pilgrimage Weekend and is available for sale. Additionally, 500 signed, limited edition, numbered prints of “Old St. Luke’s” will be available. P. Buckley Moss has given Historic St. Luke’s the opportunity to use the painting and prints to raise funds for its preservation project. All profits from the sale of the original and prints directly purchased from Historic St. Luke’s Gift Shop will go toward the restoration project partially funded by the Save America’s Treasures grant.
